Alisha Smedley is the Choral Director for Poteau Public Schools.  She conducts a 5th and 6th grade choir, a 7th and 8th grade choir, and 3 choirs at the high school level as well as teaching Music Appreciation and Humanities.  Mrs. Smedley spent her first five years teaching elementary music for Muldrow Schools where she directed two children’s choirs.  This led to her directing the Treble Choir of the Cavanal Chorale in Poteau, Oklahoma for 3 years.  Mrs. Smedley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocal Music Education from East Central University and will graduate this year with a Masters degree in School Counseling from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She is an active member of both OKMEA (Oklahoma Music Educators Association) and OKCDA (Oklahoma Choral Directors Association) where she serves as the Region Coordinator for Circle the State with Song as well as the Southeast Representative for OKCDA.  She is very passionate about music theatre and the positive influence it can have on the lives of children, youth, and adults.  She serves as Vice-President on the local community theatre board and is the camp director for Camp Bravo, a summer music theatre day camp for children ages 5-15.  She has directed or music directed over 45 shows in her 18 years teaching for Poteau High School, Pansy Kidd Middle School, Good Times Community Theatre, The Youth Arts Coalition (Ft. Smith, AR), The Community School of the Arts (Ft. Smith, AR), and The Young Actors Guild (Ft. Smith, AR).  Mrs. Smedley is married to fellow teacher, Vance Smedley.  Their feisty daughter, Danika keeps them on their toes and is a constant encouragement to keep working for better public education for all students.
